Xerox Develops Silver Ink

Xerox has recently announced its new printable silver ink for circuits. Previously, mass production of cheap electronic products was difficult because of the fuss, cost and extra resources needed to make silicon chips. The new technology features metallic ink that you can quickly and efficiently print out over plastic, fabric, and other everyday manufacturing materials.

The list of products that can be mass produced includes pill boxes that monitor medication doses for patients, sensors, the aforementioned RFID tags, and even fun electronic clothing. Xerox is kicking off its sales push by offering samples to potential partners in a wide range of industries. Assuming the savings from the technology are as significant as Xerox says, it’ll be interesting to see if the resulting products work as well in practice as they should in theory. If they do, more and more of our clothes, IDs, and everyday possessions may be getting a whole lot smarter in the near future.
